At the Avignon “off” Festival, more and more shows

The Avignon "off" Festival remains more than ever the largest live performance market in France. The 59th edition, which will be held from July 5 to 26, boasts figures that are as impressive as ever. With its program of 1,724 shows (compared to 1,666 in 2024) given in 139 venues (which include 241 rooms), this vast theatrical event confirms, in a gloomy economic climate, that it remains an essential stop for companies seeking visibility and tour dates. In total, over the entire duration of the festival, 2.6 million tickets will be on sale for more than 27,400 curtain raisers.
This year, there will be no Olympic Games or dissolution (unless there is a last-minute surprise) to disrupt the calendar and attendance of this event. For once, the dates of the "off" and the official festival (long called "in") coincide this summer, which has not happened for 25 years. "This alignment, desired by the local authorities, the prefecture, Tiago Rodrigues , director of the Avignon Festival and ourselves, is intended to be sustainable," emphasizes Harold David, co-president of AF & C (Avignon Festival et Compagnies), the association coordinating the "off".
